BOROVETS is the oldest and the biggest mountain resort in Bulgaria which has often gathered the skiing elite of the world and seen the rise of many a Bulgarian champion.Situated at 1350m above the sea level on the northern slopes of Rila Mountain among age-old pine woods, BOROVETS is located at the foot of peak MOUSSALA (2925m) - the highest one on the Balkan Peninsula. BOROVETS is easily accessible, being at a distance of 73km from Sofia and 126km from Plovdiv. The town of Samokov is only 10km down the road from the resort.
Established at the end of the 19th century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian kings, BOROVETS gradually developed into a modern ski resort of high class and luxury hotels, haute-cuisine restaurants and the varied leisure-time entertainment opportunities besides an excellent network of ski runs and lifts along the slopes of the Rila Mountain.
BOROVETS is providing excellent opportunieties for the whole range of winter sports - from Alpine sports to cross- country skiing, ski jumps and biathlon. The resort twice hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds, while the biathlon track is one of the best in the world.
The air in BOROVETS is crystal-clear and totally free of any pollutants while the average temperature during January, the coldest month, is minu 4.6?C.
SKIING CONDITIONS
The ski runs of various difficulty are suitable for all, be they beginners, intermediate, advanced or expert skiers. The slopes and runs are maintained in perfect condition and are designed with international markings and multilingual signs. A snow machine is also in use.
The BOROVETS ski school of international prestige and long-standing traditions has more than 200 ski instructors, all of them fluent in different languages, while many former professional skiers. Skiing classes come in 5 difficulty levels, from A to E - in groups or individually - 4 hours per day, 6 or 12 days. Cross-country skiing classes are 2 hours daily. All course graduates receive skiing certificates.
Ski Runs and Lifts
The Peter Popanguelov Ski School for Expert Skiing and its 10 highly-qualified ski instructors are ready to offer their services to those who want to hone their skiing skills to the world champion class.
BOROVETS has ten ski rental services, situated next to the lift station around the ski runs. They offer 7000 sets of skiing equipment from the world famous companies, as well as toboggans, sledges, etc. Skiers can also leave their own quipment for safekeeping there.
The Ski Package Offer has been tailored to your need with a view towards saving your time and money and covers skiing school classes, unlimited lift usage, ski and boot hire or storage of own skiing equipment.
The Ski Patrol provides a round-the-clock emergency service. It is organized in four teams fully equipped with all the necessary quipment including helicopter if needed. It is based at the first station of the cable lift.
Child care - Children between 2 and 4 years old can attend the Rila Hotel kinergarden (working hours: 9a.m. - 4.30p.m. and 7p.m. - 7a.m.). Elder children - from 4 to 7 years old - can be enrolle in the skiing kindergarden, locate in the neighbourhood of the Rila Hotel (working hours: 9a.m. - 4.30p.m.).
APRES SKI
Tobboggan, swimming pools, saunas, fitness center, billiard, table tennis, bowling, and much more - a trip with a sledge, a Ski View with a helicopter, etc. are avilable for your leisure pleasure.
The Bulgarian folklore evenings are an exclusive attraction you must not miss, featuring lively centuries-ol rythms and dances while tasting native Bulgarian cuisine and world famous Bulgarian wines will surely make you their fan for life. Another choice is to visit Bulgarian family and taste the local specialties in a genuine environment.
BOROVETS also offers the sophisticated skier a larger choice of night-life opportunities with its many night clubs, bars and discos. The ski carnivals are real fiestas for the guests of the resort, and the ski evenings when the ski certificates are awarded are remebered long.
BOROVETS offers scores of scentic routes, including many ski-routes, in groups le by experience guides. The organized trips lead to picturesque spots in the Rila Mountain like Seven Rila Lakes, peak Malyovitsa, peak Moussala, etc. A photo safari an a visit to the Bulgarian kings' resience of Bistritsa are also regularly organized. Various trips to different tourist attractions throughout Bulgaria are offered as well.
Trips to Melnik with its unique pyramids and famous wines, to Sofia, Plovdiv and Rila Monastery are among the most interesting ones.
